Black-on-Red ware from the Geometric and Archaic periods of the early Iron Age, 800-650 BC. Elegant forms with simple decoration of black bands and concentric circles on red often lustrous slips, the ware was originally imported from the Levant. Enthusiastically adopted by the Cypriot craftsman they put their unique stamp on the ware. The bands and concentric circles were placed in harmonious relationship to the shapes of the vessels creating a ware that can be described as having quite a sophisticated aesthetic.
